WHO WE WORK WITH

PEOPLE IMPACTED BY SYSTEMS & CARE PATHWAYS

Interacting with healthcare, education, disability, or workplace systems can be a significant source of psychological strain. Experiences of being dismissed, misunderstood, or labelled “difficult” or “non-compliant” can compound distress over time. Psychological care supports individuals to process these experiences, understand their impact, and strengthen agency, communication, and advocacy within and beyond these systems.

People who come to us are often described as…

  • “non-compliant”, “avoidant”, or “difficult to engage"
  • asking too many questions
  • anxious around appointments or assessments
  • repeatedly advocating for themselves without success
  • mistrustful of services after previous experiences
  • having previous challenging experiences with health care, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), child protection, out-of-home care, domestic violence, disability, veterans affairs, work injury, housing, and forensic systems.

They may carry labels such as…

  • anxiety or panic disorders
  • depression
  • trauma-related diagnoses
  • somatic symptom presentations
  • medically unexplained symptoms

Psychological care considers how repeated system interactions can shape emotional responses, coping strategies, and help-seeking behaviour.
