WHO WE WORK WITH

PEOPLE EXPERIENCING MINORITY STRESS & MARGINALISATION

Some people seek psychological support because they experience ongoing stress, pressure, or exclusion related to aspects of their identity. This may include factors such as gender, sexuality, culture, ethnicity, disability, neurodivergence, or other socially marginalised positions. These experiences can affect mental health, relationships, and wellbeing, and may be compounded when interacting with systems such as healthcare, education, or workplaces. Our work focuses on understanding these experiences in context, reducing internalised blame, and strengthening coping, resilience, and self-advocacy.

People who come to us are often described as…

  • Feeling misunderstood, invalidated, or dismissed because of aspects of their identity
  • Experiencing ongoing stress or tension related to minority status
  • Facing systemic barriers in healthcare, education, or employment
  • Navigating internalised stigma or pressure to conform
  • Seeking support to process experiences of exclusion, discrimination, or microaggressions

They may carry labels such as…

  • Anxiety or panic disorders
  • Depression or low mood
  • Trauma-related diagnoses (e.g., PTSD, CPTSD, adjustment disorder)
  • Stress or adjustment-related difficulties associated with discrimination, marginalisation, or minority stress

Psychological care recognises that these experiences often arise in response to social and systemic pressures, rather than reflecting personal failings. Our work supports individuals to understand the impact of these experiences, explore identity in a safe and affirming space, and develop strategies for wellbeing, resilience, and empowerment.
